About Sister, Defy the Doubt
Liu Nian'en was born into a rural family with deep-rooted son preference. She and her elder sister Liu Nianci endured neglect from childhood. When the college entrance exam results came out, Liu Nian'en earned admission to top-tier Tsinghua and Peking University, while her younger brother Liu Yaozu only got into a junior college. Even so, their parents forced her to marry for a bride price to fund her brother's education. Her elder sister Liu Nianci risked everything to protect her. She knelt and begged their aunt for a loan, only to have her basket of eggs kicked over. Desperate for tuition money, she carried steel bars at a construction site until she collapsed from exhaustion, finally scraping together enough to send her sister to university. After seeing Liu Nian'en off, Liu Nianci took her place in an arranged marriage, sold to her husband's family for 68,000 yuan. On the day she gave birth to a baby girl, her husband Zhang Jianguo slapped her across the face. For the next eight years, she was treated like a beast of burden and suffered endless abuse.
