葉山明美は両親の反対を押し切り、小林大樹と結婚した。しかし、大樹の母親・小林霞は孫娘の悦子を嫌い、大樹も浮気してる。ある日、悦子が木に引っかかった凧を取ろうとして6階から転落しちゃった。家にいた小林霞が無関心で、助けようとしなかったため、悦子は命を落とした。悦子が死んだ後、小林霞は反省せず、「早く男の子を産め」と明美を追い詰め、娘を失った明美は復讐を決意するのだった。
