苗疆の末裔である謝蛮蛮は、顧清川を救うために視力を失ってしまう。顧清川からのプロポーズを受け、二人は結婚するが、蛮蛮が視力を取り戻した時、夫の顧清川が秘書と密会し、しかもその相手を家に囲っていたことを知ってしまう。謝蛮蛮は深い悲しみに暮れ、師匠の志を継ぎ、離婚して遠くへ旅立ち、顧清川とは二度と会わないことを決意する。しかし、顧清川は後悔し、長い「妻奪還」の道を歩み始める。一方、蛮蛮は医療事業に身を投じ、そばには彼女を静かに見守る熱心な先輩がいた。
