7年前、不治の病を患った初恋の相手・傅時宴に腎臓を提供した趙沐歌は、自分が彼の足手まといになることや、身分の違いを気にして、心を鬼にして傅時宴のもとを去った。そして傅可可を出産し、一人で育てることを選んだ。それが原因で、傅時宴は趙沐歌が貧しさを嫌い、金持ちを選んだのだと誤解した。7年後、趙沐歌は「上海の若き帝王」こと顧驚鴻を救うため、交通事故に遭って植物状態となった。傅可可と共に必死に支え合い、レストランの店主や病院の患者たちの支援も受けて、ようやく手術費用を集めた。しかし、手術直前になって、傅可可が厲家の令嬢・厲寒月を怒らせてしまう。厲寒月は傅可可に土下座して謝るよう要求し、さらには花瓶で彼女の頭を叩こうとする──。
