ソネンとリンコウは仕事が忙しく、娘のユウユウをないがしろにすることが多かった。ある日の会議中、ソネンは突然ユウユウから救難信号を受けた。そのとき彼女は、夫が初恋の相手であるコウキョウキョウとその息子を遊びに連れ出し、娘を車の中に閉じ込めていたことを知った。エンジンは止まり、空気はよどみ、灼熱で悲惨な状況だった。パニックに陥ったソネンは、リンコウの居場所を突き止めようと電話で連絡を取ろうとしたが、彼は彼女を嫉妬と嘘で責め立て、居場所を明かそうとせず、ついには電話にも出なくなった。自暴自棄になった彼女はリンコウの母親に助けを求めようと家に戻ったが、母親は思いやりのない本性をあらわにしただけだった。リンコウの母親は長い間孫娘に無関心で、ソネンにもう一人、家督を継ぐ孫ができるよう、密かに事故を望んでいたのだ。
