江寧（ジアン・ニン）は、養母と二人きりで慎ましく暮らしてきた。 ある夜、思わぬ行き違いから時謹修（シー・ジンシウ）の部屋に入り込んでしまい、二人は互いの素性を知らぬまま、人生を大きく変える出来事を迎える。 その後、連絡も名前も交わすことなく、二人は別々の道を歩むことになった。 それから六年。 江寧は二人の子どもを育てながら、焼き芋を売って生計を立てる日々を送っていた。 そんなある日、運命のいたずらのように、彼女は時謹修と再会する。 一方、時謹修は祖父からの執拗な結婚の催促に悩まされていた。 追い詰められた彼は、とっさの思いつきで“ある提案”をする―― 二人の子どもを「自分の子」として振る舞わせ、結婚話をかわそうというのだ。 偽りから始まった家族ごっこ。 しかし、子どもたちの無邪気さと、共に過ごす時間の中で、忘れていた感情が少しずつ蘇っていく。 やがて二人は、過去と向き合い、本当の答えを選ぶことになる。
