六十歳のリー・チンホーは、ガンと診断される。家族に迷惑をかけまいと、彼女は病状を隠し、息子の家で無償の家事労働を続け、自分の手術費すら惜しむ。そんな時、三十年前にすれ違った元同僚ジョウ・ミンが、普通の退職労働者として再び現れ、彼女に想いを伝える。一方、息子リュウ・ハオは五百万の投資話に追われていた。母の再婚の話を知った彼は、怒りをぶつけ、酒をこぼして彼女の服や靴を汚し、彼女に拭かせる。そこに投資家ジャン・ジーピンが到着し、ハオは慌てて母を隠す。自らの恥を隠すため、彼は公の場でチンホーを「自分の母ではない」と否定する。その言葉に、彼女の心は深く傷つく。警備員に追い出されようとしたその時、彼女は発作を起こし吐血する。ハオは驚き、その時――ジョウ・ミンが宴会場に戻ってくる。
