阮紅梅（ルワン・ホンメイ）と元元（ユエンユエン）は母子家庭を営んでいる。元元はXYY症候群と精神障害を患っているが、阮紅梅の母愛によって、優しい子に成長する。阮紅梅は元元を連れて、亡き夫が残した田舎の家で新たな生活を始めるが、家は義母の一家に不法占拠されていた。絶縁状態を強いて、全財産を奪い取ろうとする義母一家は牛糞を撒いたり、誹謗中傷を広めたり、強制的に家を壊すなど、手段を選ばない。阮紅梅は子供のために何度も耐えるが、次々と理不尽な迫害を受けることに。最終的に元元は感情を抑えきれず、義母一家に代償を支払わせることとなる。
